What is the best material for men's suits?

When choosing a suit, there are so many colours, styles, cuts and even materials to choose from. So, how do you know how to choose the best material for suits? This can very much depend on the occasion that you want to wear your suit, and the amount of wear that you want to get out of your suit too.

For example, for a suit intended for everyday wear, the best cloth to choose would be a hardwearing and comfortable one, which works for all seasons. If you’re looking for a suit for a specific occasion which you may wear very few times, you could choose a softer fabric that may be more suited for the event.

Read on through this blog to find out all about the best material for mens 3 piece suits for every season and occasion!

Cloth For Suits

The best material for suits is pure wool; it comes in varying weaves from Worsted to Flannel to Tweed and everything in between. Wools make for the best suit cloth choice for many occasions and all seasons. Due to the natural weave of the fabric, wool suits can keep you warm in colder seasons but still makes for a great breathable fabric, making it perfect for the best material for Summer suits. When mixed with other fabrics such as Cashmere, Mohair or Silk, the wool blend will have a luxurious feel and aesthetic, and become more expensive.

The weight of the cloth can vary a lot. Heavy wool fabric is ideal for Jacketing and Tweed Suits. Lighter weights tend to suit Formal Tailoring, Groom Suits, Business Suits or Evening/Occasion Suits. Tweed wool suits are the best men’s suit choice for everyday wear due to the hardwearing nature of the fabric.

We would always advise a wool mix fabric as the best material for business suits. Having the mix of fabric will make the suit more hardwearing whilst balancing the favourable properties of wool. It is never advised that you purchase a 100% polyester suit for work; this man-made fabric will not breathe, making for uncomfortable wear in winter and summer.

When should I wear a polyester suit?

Polyester has always been associated with cheap suits. While that is the case, technology has enabled man-made fabrics to be woven into some fascinating cloth to create beautiful suits. If you’re not a regular suit wearer and you’re just looking for a suit for a specific occasion, or you’re working to a budget, these polyester blend suits could be the perfect choice for you.

The best material for suits designed for summer wear is a lightweight and breathable one. If you’ve been invited to a summer or destination wedding, then opt for a cotton or linen suit. This cloth is perfect for warmer climates, though it is not designed for everyday wear. Due to the lightweight nature of the fabric, a linen or cotton suit will wear much faster and are prone to creasing. So, whilst linen or cotton is the best cloth choice for summer suits, it wouldn’t be well suited to winter style.
