What to wear this autumn

What to wear this autumn - Leonard Silver

If summer was the season that brought with it a more laid back, casual style then it’s fair to say that this autumn will be the start of a shift to a smarter and more formal trend; a crispness to match the fresh seasonal chill in the air.

This season will be full of fine wools, overcoats and will demand the fashion conscious gent to get savvy when it comes to the mixing of layers as the duo of sportswear and formal clobber makes a big comeback. But, as ever, treading the fine line between hit and miss remains.

So, to help you out we’ve put together our guide for autumns top trends.

1. Roll necks

Roll necks are making a comeback. Not only do they help stave off any autumn chill from your neck and keep you warm in general, they help show a sophistication and they’re a great cold weather-specific option to alternatives that can be worn year round, such as the polo neck.

They should be paired with a pair of fitted, pleated chinos, which also help to elevate your outfit to a level above than if you were to wear them with a pair of jeans. When the frosty weather really starts to bite you should turn to a wool overcoat to keep out the cold.

2. Sports jacket

A slim cut, two-button blue blazer is a great option. It meets the sophisticated demand that the season brings but can be dressed down by pairing it with a t-shirt to demonstrate a more demure look. Wearing the jacket with a matching or similar coloured pair of trousers will give the look a Scandi chic appearance and keep you very much on trend for the season.

You can further dress down the ensemble by wearing a pair of sleek, trendy and simple design sneakers that will keep you comfortable without compromising on style.

3. Topcoat

One of the major trends to emerge from catwalks across Europe for this season is the love for topcoats. Couple this with another of the season’s trends in layering and you’ll see just how important a staple this piece will become in your wardrobe. It’s also incredibly versatile and will go with several different looks and it’spracticality will keep you protected from the elements.

They come in a range of colours from darker greys to lighter colours. But to really look the part we’d recommend opting for a classic camel colour.

4. Keep your head warm

It’s a well-known fact that you lose a lot of heat through your head. So, if you want to stay warm this season you’ll need to wear a hat. But for many, finding a stylish solution can prove very tricky. From David Beckham to Peaky Blinders, flat caps have found their way to being a high-street fashion staple. They come in a range of colours to suit your outfit and, if made from wool, are guaranteed to store the heat as well as keep you looking sharp.
