Eighty years. One name. Still independent. In 2026, Leonard Silver marks 80 years of dressing the men of Hull and beyond — since 1946, from the heart of the city, with the same belief that a man should be measured properly and dressed well.
Since 1946
Leonard Silver opened its doors in 1946, on Hull's Savile Street — a street that has carried our name for generations. Where high streets have changed beyond recognition and national chains have opened and closed, we have stayed: independent, family-minded, and devoted to the craft of menswear.
Eight decades of dressing well
Across eight decades we have done one thing, and done it properly — helped men look and feel their best for the moments that matter. Weddings and race days, first interviews and final farewells, and the everyday business of dressing with quality. We have fitted fathers and then their sons, and measured grooms alongside their whole wedding party.
Along the way we built relationships with some of the finest makers in the trade — Goodyear-welted shoes from Barker and Loake, Egyptian-cotton shirts from Eton, cloth from the great Italian and British mills — and we brought made-to-measure tailoring and online shopping to a new generation, without ever losing the personal service that started it all.
Still here. Still independent.
That is the part we are proudest of. Eighty years on, Leonard Silver remains an independent menswear house — not a branch of a national chain, but a Hull institution run by people you can meet, in a shop you can walk into. In an age of faceless retail, that feels rarer, and matters more, than ever.
The next eighty
We are marking the year by looking forward as well as back — with refreshed collections, our own-label tailoring, and the same promise we made in 1946: quality menswear, fitted properly, by people who care.
