Pure wool suits are by far the highest quality men's suits you can buy. Suits were always traditionally cut from wool cloth — sometimes woven with silk, mohair or linen — and more than a century after the alternatives arrived, nothing else drapes, breathes or recovers its shape quite like it. Every suit in this collection is 100% pure wool.

We buy our cloth from mills we know by name. From Yorkshire, Alfred Brown weaves the English worsteds — sharkskin, herringbone and flannel with proper weight and depth of colour — that have been a staple of British tailoring for generations. From Italy come the finer, lighter cloths: Vitale Barberis Canonico, weaving in Biella since 1663, and Loro Piana, whose Super 150's cloth is often called the finest in the world. The “Super” number — Super 100's through to Super 200's — refers to the fineness of the yarn: the higher the count, the finer the thread and the silkier the lustre of the finished cloth.

Cloth is only half of a properly made suit. Many of the suits here use half-canvas construction — a floating canvas chest piece that moulds to the wearer over time, rather than the fused front found in cheaper tailoring — and every one can be fitted in-house, as we have been doing in Hull since 1946.

Due to its characteristics, wool is still the most popular fibre in clothing. It gives breathability to garments, allowing the exchange of air. Its thermoregulation properties keep the body warm in winter and cool in summer. It absorbs moisture then releases it into the air, and is less susceptible to mould. Lastly, it is recyclable, reusable and biodegradable.
