The forget me not is a quiet badge among Freemasons, and here it is kept small: five blue petals set in a gold-coloured surround, with a matching centre. Worn on the tie, it sits just below the knot and reads as a flower first and a token second.
A tie tac is the discreet option. It pins through the tie rather than clipping over it, so it holds the blade without interrupting the line of the front. Against a plain navy or grey tie the blue petals show clearly; on a patterned tie they settle in.
